“…Jazz was a head of the curve…” Now, was that SO hard to admit?

  3. What a brilliant documentary. When I first saw this three years ago I fell in love with Jazz and I here I am three years on. Still listening to Miles Davis and Co. with the same sense of astonishment that I had felt the first time I heard their music. True legends of the art. Rest In Piece Miles.

Crouch always spoke highly of Miles, he just denounced his fusion period and all that came after

The friends of my girlfriends father find it strange that a nineteen year old young man listens to jazz. Strange I thought by myself, I never thought that of myself.

Thank you so much for posting this!

  7. ..what’s with all these comments of people bragging about how they are so special because they like jazz? Music is like food. You can eat shitty food everyday and feel like shit- eat totally healthy food everyday and crave shit- or get a good mix of it all. Jazz is fine dining for many different palates. That is how you should approach music. High quality and poor quality. We can induge in both sometimes, but the right choice leads to better well being. Remember that kids

  10. Like some of you who already noticed and commented: HEY BBC! HOW THE HECK CAN YOU LEAVE JOHN COLTRANE’S GIANT STEPS OUT OF THIS PROGRAM?!!? This most seminal and fundamental album, containing some very challenging harmonic progressions was recorded and released in 1959. No serious Jazz collection is complete w/o it, every modern Jazz player must deal with its innovations to a certain extent, if not with all of them, to be taken seriously.
