    Here is what they tried to teach us fools at Berklee back in the day- For jazz voicings(aka shell voicings), you want to remove “fifth notes” from chords, almost always. Next in line, root notes can actually be removed, whilst still maintaining the intended sound of the chord. The most important note in chord, is the “third.” Followed by the 7th, 6th, 9th, etc…

  5. major 6ths?? that’s just a major chord inverted.. or do you mean added 6th? that still doesn’t sound sad, actually happier than a regular major chord. minor7ths sound less happy tho
