When I saw The Pat Metheny Group for the first time in November of 1982, in
of all places, Peoria, IL. This one as well as many others that night
including Are You Going With Me (which Pat stated before going into it,
“was something we have been working out on the bus for a couple days” and
then proceeded to absolutely blow everybody away during its 16 minute
reading. Which I Believe may have been its 1st reading in concert at that)
James was one of the ones that Pat apologized for that night, for not yet
having a name and gave it a 12 minute reading It came in like a breeze of
fresh air.
When I was very little, like 2-3 years old, my father put the refrain from
this song as the opening sound on our old computer…I still remember that
happy and warm feeling that this song gave me, and now, I’m listening it
after so many years…still gives me goosebumps, it always make me think of
the good things in life that we forgot so often
Just spun this track again after not hearing it for a long time. Lyle’s
solo is a frickin’ masterpiece, the way he builds it through the successive
iterations of the verse is truly amazing.
