  1. This is super nice, three more are; Number 19, She’s leaving home and August Ending..,

  2. “jazzy” … I’m sure the jazz fans in the audience (everyone) were willing to forgive this world-class “jazz” musician for performing a pop tune from the early 90′s as a vehicle for his artistic brilliance…perhaps, in turn, you can open your mind and your ears a bit and appreciate his rather classical approach to developing the theme of the song in his improvisation, and appreciate the beauty rather than condemning something you don’t understand.

  3. without that isnt meldhau, thats why we hear it. :D

@OhNoxius, could you send me the whole video?? This is one of my favorite videos on all of youtube and there’s no studio recording of it.

  9. SO gosh darn beautiful. I like a lot of Brad’s stuff (especially his recent Trio work, Ode is superb), and some of his older work I find is only okay. This song and concert in general prove what a mature musician he is becoming. I love his interpretations of popular music and I think that is the direction Jazz needs to be moving now. The old song book has lost a lot of its cultural relevance, as much as I still love all those classic songs.

  10. Agreed, wish someone would make an audio version of this concert from the original source.

  11. Amazing ,!!! shame it was cut off at the end totally love this style of playing

  14. Interesting, I’m not really a fan of Ode/recent trio stuff compared to The Art of the Trio. Regardless, you’re absolutely right about the need for Jazz to incorporate “more relatable” tunes. SF Jazz Center recently had opening night with legends McCoy, Chick, Hutcherson and the like. Newer blood too. It was great, but much comes across now as safe Jazz to my ears. Mehldau’s work in not only as an extension of the Jazz tradition, but is profoundly innovative in the larger history of Music.
