Oops! Looks like we BOTH spelled it wrong. In the name of jazz I’ll let you figure out the rest of it though. I was only teasing any way, no need to be pedantic!

“Playing chords that you weren’t supposed to play on guitar and Wes played because he didn’t know he wasn’t supposed to play those chords.” Classic!

  5. bluesgurugod says:

Wes didn’t go to school so he played unlike anyone who came out of school.
Now they’re teaching Wes Montgomery in all the schools – go figure.
Things that you can do on your own are pretty amazing…

  6. Lenny Breau! A great genius! Like Wes Montgomery, but never got big sadly, he influenced so many jazz guitarists, for he also did something on the guitar that no one could do or even knew was possible.

  7. ‘four on six’. i recommend you buy the album mentioned, it’s on the record. one of wes’ most popular tunes.

  8. BeatBay says:

  9. Kraeezeu says:

Wes Montgomery was, and still is, greatly unrecognized and underappreciated as the great genius guitar player he was. Many, including greats like George Benson, have since got ideas from him. He was one of the great self-taught guitarists as was another great Stevie Ray Vaughn. If anyone really wants to get into Wes I suggest listening to “Bumpin” and “Bumpin On Sunset”
I have always loved the arrangements on some of Wes’s albums and if Mr Keepnews had a hand in it then he has true talent!

  13. thaanks for the great videos eh. rock on

Excellent!!!! How did I never see this?

  17. Felix Scott says:

I am really enjoying this. I had no idea that he was playing in a barbecue joint and didn’t start until 2:00 AM. I never figured out if he was playing solo or had an organ and drum accompaniment in the joint. I never realized that he was strictly an ear player. I knew about the octaves and I know he invented that. Now he had two brothers Monk and Buddy but I thought they could read, but I guess not. Actually most good readers including me play by ear also, but we can read too.
